Dr Tina Bianco-Miotto is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide and a member of the Robinson Research Institute. Her research focus is on epigenetics mechanisms. Her research has contributed to the understanding of the role of DNA methylation in leukaemia, colon, breast, ovarian and prostate cancers. More recently, Tina’s research has focused on how environment, including diet, alters the genome and epigenome and how this impacts on reproductive and metabolic health and cancer risk later in life. Tina is currently working on using epigenetic biomarkers for predicting disease. Her expertise in genetics, epigenetics and molecular biology have been applied to research projects ranging from pregnancy to cancer. Together with Prof Claire Roberts she is using cutting-edge methods to characterise the molecular steps involved in the development of the placenta across gestation. This will provide the basis for determining what goes wrong in potentially life threatening pregnancy complications.
